Building a Grails App – Session 1
Posted by jt - 06/02/11 at 03:02 pmI recently wrote a small Grails application for a local legal firm to help them track their time and expenses on clients. I’ve decided to re-create the application in a video tutorial series. It was a fun little app to write. I was able to a number of different plugins, like Spring Security Core, jQuery UI, and Blue Print CSS.
Below is the first installment in the series. This is my first shot at creating a video tutorial. Please let me know what you think!
Also – code for this series is on Google code: http://code.google.com/p/jts-blog/
A bunch of random technology stuff that has my attention. I work with a lot of Oracle, Java, and dabble with various open source software packages.

Hey, audio is WAY to low! Can’t hear it on my laptop.

Updated the video…. Tried bumping up the audio in Final Cut Express. Hopefully this does the trick!

Hi, I’m very interested in seeing the code behind the timetracker app but cannot find it on the google code link you posted.

Its there – http://code.google.com/p/jts-blog/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2Fhow_to_grails%2Ftimeapp
Note** It is not the whole app yet. I’m updating the google code project as I go in the series.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Watched the video at grails.org, and I too experienced low audio levels and had to wear a headset with the volume set near maximum level. You might want to try a headset type of mic or one that sits on a stand closer to you. Again, thanks for the great presentation and I am looking forward to new installments.

Thanks JT. Looking forward for the next tutorial. The project on google code is a plain grails project. Is the full tutorial code available yet?

Nice intro for a promising looking demo,
still waiting for the sequal part.
Are you planing to do it/publish it any time soon?
Really like to see how it evolves ?

Yes – I hope to. Just been crazy busy with work & few spare cycles. It takes 4 or 5 hours to make those up.
